Inner Power

INNER POWER

- Makwena Makgwane

As we continue to engage on the subject of Personal Power, this week I would like to check in with you with these questions:

  1. Do you think you know yourself?
  2. Like, really know yourself?
  3. Have you taken the time to reflect and think about everything this Power Blog has revealed about YOU?

As you continue to ponder, we now step into another personal power component, the one that each person poses, which is INNER POWER. The superpower that lies within each and every individual. The dictionary defines INNER POWER as

“The ability to act and move according to your true self and your highest potential”.

It is the state of a person’s mind that helps a person to overcome challenges, pursue goals and live a fulfilling life.

Taking a few steps back, let us remind ourselves what “Personal Power” is. Personal Power is the inner strength and confidence that everyone, including myself, has. It is the person’s ability to manage their behaviour by healthily navigating thoughts and emotions and then using them to achieve goals and lead a fulfilling life. So inner power is a vital component of success and fulfilment as a person continues to take ownership of their personal power. Yes, you might be wondering how you got this far in life without having gone through these personal power checkpoints, but remember that navigating through life and achieving a certain level of success without doing your inner work will eventually catch up with you. You will at some point in life see the cracks, be it in your relationships, health, finances etc.

Feeling powerless and not having control over one’s life lows is an inevitable part of life. Many times, being overwhelmed by life and operating at low power can show up uninvited. However, recharging your inner power is a daily choice each person must own. The ability to redirect our lives inward can be very challenging. It takes a lot of work, deliberate and intentional efforts to slow yourself down to bring yourself out of life’s buzzing noises, bring yourself out of panic, anxiety, fear, and to pause and remain silent.

When you don’t periodically connect with your inner power, it is like you are at the mercy of whatever is going on around you. Your confidence and your feelings about who you are, are based on the world’s views of who you should be. But when you rely on the power inside of you and you use this power to fill yourself up, you will always feel empowered and confident no matter what goes on around you.

In the upcoming Power Blog series,  I will take you through how to find your inner power when you feel like you’ve lost it, why you should embrace your inner power, what conversations you should be having with yourself etc.
